It’s not very often we see a lawmaker ‘break wind’ in full glare of public. This very important natural human activity is usually done with some decorum and within the confines of privacy.
The events of Wednesday 21st July, 2021 in which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected Republican nominees Rep. Jim Banks (Ind.) and Rep. Jim Jordan (Ohio) could well be likened to a thunderous blast of flatulence on U.S. democracy.
There’s hardly a better way to describe Nancy’s handpicked Committee to investigate the events of the January 6th Capitol Hill violence than a total sham.
With Trump’s acquittal on 13th Feb. 2021 by the Congress, ordinarily one would expect that the Biden administration would switch gears to more important issues of national interest such as tackling the COVID crisis, the porous borders and the economy.
Regrettably, none of these seems to be the priority of Biden, Democrats and Speaker Pelosi. The hate for Trump never stops even after office, and ranks more than salient issues and well-being of Americans.
From the Russia collusion hoax investigation to the diplomatic phone call to Ukrainian President, Pelosi’s appetite for setting up Committees to investigate Trump is insatiable.
This insatiable appetite perhaps explains her rejection of the Republican nominees to the Jan. 6th Capitol Hill committee.
More embarrassing is the fact that lawmakers did not uphold the principle of Natural Justice in setting up the committee. Pelosi for one should have been excused from the committee considering her purported role in rebuffing the request of law enforcement to secure the perimeters of Capitol Hill just before the violence. Till date, it has not been established beyond reasonable doubt that Paul Irving, the then House Sergeant-at-Arms whose appointment and dismissal was at the pleasure of the House Speaker, acted without the knowledge of his then boss, Madam Speaker Pelosi.
For Pelosi to oversee this function of investigating events of Jan. 6th is therefore highly questionable. Nemo judex in causa sua as the principle of Natural Justice in law says: Pelosi cannot be a judge in a case in which she has questions to answer. To think that she is the one who handpicked members of this Committee makes it even worse.
Pelosi rejected Republican nominees Rep. Jim Banks and Rep. Jim Jordan to the committee, while at the same time, personally choosing Rep. Liz Cheney (R., Wyoming) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R. Illinois), renowned Trump haters to be part of the committee. It begs the question why anyone would find it okay for only people who hate Trump to constitute a committee to find justice. Certainly, the inference can never be anything close to justice for the premise has already been corrupted and compromised from the onset. You cannot put something on nothing.
Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger were the only two Republican House members who voted to setup the Jan. 6th committee. This perhaps explains Pelosi’s preference for them. She wants only those who would second the premeditated resolution she already has in place.
Americans should ask the hate filled Pelosi what happened to the principle of audi alteram partem (listening to the other side). Why is she so desperate on shutting out the other side to this so called investigation by refusing Republican nominees?
House Republican Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy is commended for his bravery in withdrawing the other three nominees of the five Republican nominees to the committee following Pelosi’s rejection of Rep. Jim Banks and Rep. Jim Jordan. It makes no sense for any Republican to be part of a sham investigation where Pelosi who played a questionable role in the Jan. 6th riots gets to decide who stays on the committee and who doesn’t.
Americans should as a matter of obligation reject any outcome from this Pelosi masterminded committee as unjust and not reflective of the principle of fair transparent hearing.
