WCK GAZA DEATHS: ISRAEL WARNS AGAINST POLITICIZING “CASUALTIES OF WAR.”

Share

In the wake of the tragic demise of six World Central Kitchen aid workers, experts have warned against politicizing unintended “casualties of war” to suit antisemitic agenda.

Three English nationals—James Henderson, 33, John Chapman, 57. and James Kirby, 47, —were among the seven international volunteers caught in an unintentional Israeli drone strike as part of efforts to rid Gaza of Hamas terrorists following the October 7th terrorist attack which left 1500 Israelis dead and 200 others kidnapped including infants.

Tragic as it is, this strike is a stark reminder of the consequences of Hamas decision to flaunt all international humanitarian laws in its operations, thus blurring the line between genuine aid workers and disguised terrorists. Several reports have revealed Hamas disguises as aid workers, launch rockets from densely populated civilian areas, and operate under the cover of ‘human shields’ made out of innocent, terrified and defenseless Palestinians to cause collateral damage for Israeli soldiers. The 7 aid worker killings is a direct and unintended consequence of Hamas deceptiveness which puts even foreign workers in harm’s way by compromising the legitimacy of their identity.

Given these reckless tactics which endanger the very lives of Palestinians Hamas claims to fight for, the IDF has had to thread with a greater caution compared to the military operations of Russia, Ukraine and the US over the last two decades.

Whether aid workers or journalists, the death of foreign volunteers is not uncommon in any war front. Between 2022 and 2023, over 720 aid workers were killed in Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine and other conflict-ridden parts of the world according to the AWSD. More recently, France in February, mourned the death of 2 aid workers killed in Ukraine by Russia drone strikes. None of these incidents sparked calls for the banning of munition supplies or UN imposed sanctions as seen with Israel.

The IDF has since apologized and reprimanded responsible soldiers, as such, peoples and nations with both secret and open disdain for Israel must cease politicizing the death of WCK staffs.
