BIAS, THE UN AND PALESTINE

Nine years ago, the UN elevated the status of Palestine from a “non-member observer entity” to a “non-member observer state” to the excitement of the Palestinian Authority leader, Mahmoud Abbas, thus laying the groundwork for the recognition of a cantankerous region. Exactly 138 nations bestowed on Palestine the controversial privilege, with the US and eight other nations backing out on the grounds that the people of Palestine are still overrun by terrorist group, Hamas, do not have a definite government and cannot properly define their boundaries without verbally coveting Israeli territories as the ultimate prize to an utterly despicable antisemitic jihad.

Nine years later and Palestine is still as violently unstable as it was in 1949. There are plans for a general election already twice postponed to December. The only viable candidates are 86-year-old frail Abbas who is seeking reelection after turning a four-year tenure to 16 years; an unnamed opponent backed by the breakaway terrorist, Marwan Barghouti, currently serving multiple life sentences; and Hamas, the unapologetically antisemitic terrorist group hellbemt on annihilating Israel. Clearly, the outcome of the elections will only end to prove how Palestine is self destructive and plagued with selfish leaders. This goes to show how wrong the UN was to grant the region of Palestine a state status.

But the UN is not only wrong for Palestine, it is also hurtfully partial towards Hong Kong, Tibet, and Taiwan. Under its terms, these territories are equally subject to gross oppression and in need of liberation from coercive China. By granting observer status to Palestine and ignoring the clamour for freedom and the right to self determination of Taiwan, Hongkong and Tibet, the UN has become a bastion of injustice.
